Translation
Arjuna said, But, O Krsna, what is the state of those who, endued with faith, perform sacrifices, distribute wealth, etc. in honour of gods and others, while ignoring the injunctions of the scriptures? Is it sattva, rajas, or tamas?

arjuna uvācha ye śhāstra-vidhim utsṛijya yajante śhraddhayānvitāḥ teṣhāṁ niṣhṭhā tu kā kṛiṣhṇa sattvam āho rajas tamaḥ
Arjuna said, But, O Krsna, what is the state of those who, endued with faith, perform sacrifices, distribute wealth, etc. in honour of gods and others, while ignoring the injunctions of the scriptures? Is it sattva, rajas, or tamas?
।।17.1।। अर्जुन बोले -- हे कृष्ण ! जो मनुष्य शास्त्र-विधिका त्याग करके श्रद्धापूर्वक देवता आदिका पूजन करते हैं, उनकी निष्ठा फिर कौन-सी है? सात्त्विकी है अथवा राजसी-तामसी?
